Kent International Rail Event

In September 2025 KCC proudly delivered the Grow in Kent International Rail Event at Ashford International Station.

Leaders from across Kent, MPs, French dignitaries and rail industry representatives all came together with one clear message: it is time to bring international rail services back to Ashford and Ebbsfleet. Together they signed a memorandum of understanding, formalising a shared commitment to restore those services and secure Kent’s rightful place on the international rail map. The group were also able to handover a petition with over 80,000 signatures, organised by local campaigners and underlining the strength of public demand for the return of these vital services.

The event was a true celebration of Kent’s strengths. Featuring performances by North Kent College and a showcase of local food and drink producers, it was a powerful reminder of what makes our county unique – and why international rail access is so vital.

The Good Growth Foundation estimates that restoring services could attract up to 493,000 new visitors, generate £315 million in spending, and bring as much as £2.67 billion into the UK economy over five years.
